Macabeo is the classic white wine grape variety of Bullas (aka Viura in Rioja) and is picked as early as possible in order to maximise its vivacity in this hot region of southeast Spain.
Bodegas San Isidro, situated near the town of Bullas in south-east Spain, is small in cooperative terms, and represents many small producers who lovingly tend tiny plots, and who would otherwise not be able to compete with bigger producers.
The stony vineyards are at an altitude of around 700-800 metres, largely comprising limestone and clay soils. Here, the combination of low rainfall (in almost desert-like conditions) and high altitude produces excellent quality grapes with good acidity and wonderful concentration.
Lovely white wine style with delicate apple and pear blossom aromas. Soft citrus flavours on the palate, with good acidity and freshness to balance. A great white for light salads and white fish dishes.
