Cepas del Zorro’s Tinto Monastrell 2014 is a lovely (vat aged for 12 months) unoaked style red made for early enjoyment from the great Monastrell vine.
Bodegas San Isidro, situated near the town of Bullas in south-east Spain, is small in cooperative terms, and represents many small producers who lovingly tend tiny plots, who would otherwise not be able to compete with bigger producers.
The stony vineyards are at an altitude of around 700-800 metres, largely comprising limestone and clay soils. Here, the combination of low rainfall (in almost desert-like conditions) and high altitude produces excellent quality grapes with good acidity and wonderful concentration.
Smooth and well-rounded with great concentration of black fruits and hints of leather. Delicious ripe fruits fill the mouth with spicy notes, velvety texture, good structure and soft tannins. Great persistence. Will be great with savoury meat dishes.
